This was a most enjoyable, packed to the gunwales, holiday! Great rail tour guides in Steve and Jon to help us overcome the idiosyncrocies of Deutsche Bahn and to keep calm when our reserved seats were already "occupied". For the most part, good local guides, particularly the lovely ex opera singer who gave us a burst of Ave Maria outside the cathedral in Passau. Our cruise guide Rob was short handed as he should have had an assistant, which sometimes meant he was stretched, but one of the guests helped him out where she could, but he did a great job, always had a smile and was approachable . Vienna was a disappointment as the visit was badly planned and my group had very little free time to see the city. At Dürnstein quite a few of us had to wait on the quayside in the sun for 30 minutes whilst three ships, including ours, cast off to allow the nearest ship to leave - a bit of forward planning could have avoided this. The last hotel in Wiesenbaden was not up to standard compared to the other hotels, but this had been a last minute change due to the Euros taking place in Frankfurt. However the food and entertainment on board the ship were excellent, the staff were very professional and friendly and I was also so pleased that the string quartet in Vienna did not "dum down" for us holidaymakers. All in all, a good experience, with a few minor grumbles, but we would definitely think about doing it again.

Most aspects were very good. Let down by Deutche Bann delays and platform changes. We also had a pointless trip to a view point which reduced the time to tour the city.

A hectic but very enjoyable taster of the Imperial cities combined with a superb river cruise. The only downside being the unpredictability of the German rail network. The trains themselves were very comfortable though.
