DAY1Flying to Canada

Your incredible exploration of North America begins by meeting the Great Rail Journeys Tour Manager at London Heathrow before flying to Canada.

On arrival in Calgary, we continue by coach to the renowned Rocky Mountain town of Banff, where we check in to our hotel for the next two nights. The rest of the afternoon and evening is free to explore at your own pace.

Surrounded by towering peaks and alpine beauty, Banff is full of charm. The streets of downtown are lined with chalet-style shops, restaurants and bars, along with excellent galleries and museums that showcase the region's rich natural and cultural heritage.

DAY2Banff National Park

After breakfast this morning, we gain a different perspective of the Canadian Rockies with a ride on the Banff Gondola.

The trip takes us nearly 7,500 feet above sea level to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, where there are breathtaking views of Banff National Park. At the top, you can stroll the boardwalk to the Cosmic Ray Station and Sanson's Peak, or head inside to discover the world-class mountaintop discovery centre, where the story of Canada's first national park unfolds.

Returning to Banff afterwards, the afternoon is free to explore at leisure. You might visit one of the town's excellent museums or browse the boutique shops and galleries that give Banff its charming alpine character. This evening, we regroup and dine together in a local restaurant.

DAY3Across the Icefields Parkway to Jasper

Today after breakfast, we journey by coach to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway, recognised as one of the most scenic drives in the world carved through the heart of the Canadian Rockies.

Enroute, we stop at Lake Louise, renowned for its turquoise waters and dramatic mountain backdrop, before arriving at the Columbia Icefield to view the Athabasca Glacier. Here, we board specially designed Ice Explorer vehicles for an unforgettable journey onto the surface of the Athabasca Glacier, where we take in incredible views of this ethereal, wintry landscape. Afterwards, we make a short stop at the Athabasca Falls, where thundering waters cascade through the idyllic mountain scenery.

Later, we arrive in the mountain town of Jasper and check in to our hotel for a two-night stay. The rest of the afternoon and evening is at leisure - a chance to unwind, explore the picture-perfect town and dine independently in one of Jaspers's welcoming restaurants.

DAY4Jasper & Maligne Lake

Entering the beautiful surroundings of Jasper National Park after breakfast this morning, we admire the views of this UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rugged beauty and abundant wildlife.

Our journey takes us through the scenic mountain landscapes to Maligne Lake, the largest glacier-fed lake in the Canadian Rockies. Here, we enjoy a cruise across its crystal-clear waters, passing dramatic peaks and dense forests. Along the way, we keep an eye out for local wildlife - from moose to mountain goats - and take in views of Spirit Island, one of the most photographed spots in Canada.

Returning to Jasper in the afternoon, the rest of the day is free to relax or explore at your own pace. You might choose to browse local shops, enjoy a gentle riverside walk or unwind with a drink in one of the town's cosy cafés.

DAY5Rocky Mountaineer to Kamloops

A tour highlight awaits today as we board Rocky Mountaineer early this morning, beginning the first of our superb daylight journeys through some of Canada's most jaw-dropping scenery. Travelling in SilverLeaf Class*, in unique, glass-domed cars with breakfast and lunch included at our seats, we marvel at panoramic views of Canada's spectacular scenery unfolding in front of us on this relaxed journey to Kamloops.

Leaving Banff, we pass Castle Mountain and climb into the Kicking Horse Pass, before travelling through the Spiral Tunnels. Crossing the Continental Divide, the train moves from Alberta into British Columbia. We then descend into Yoho National Park, where we are treated to views of towering cliffs, deep canyons and waterfalls.

Leaving the rugged terrain of the mountains behind, the landscape begins to soften and we arrive in Kamloops for a night at a local hotel. After checking in, there is time to explore and dine independently.

DAY6Rocky Mountaineer to the Pacific Coast

Our wonderful Rocky Mountaineer experience continues this morning on another dramatic stretch of the line through varied landscapes. Enjoying breakfast and lunch on board, we journey along the impressive Thompson and Fraser Canyons, past the rushing waters of Hell's Gate, as we keep our eyes open for native Canadian wildlife.

Daylight-only travel means we can savour every glimpse of Canada before arriving in our destination, Vancouver. The city is considered one of the world's most desirable places to live, thanks to its incredible setting. Blending the vibrancy and culture of a cosmopolitan city with spectacular scenery, Vancouver impresses its many visitors.

After checking in to our hotel, located a short distance from both Downtown and the harbour, there is a free evening to get to know your surroundings and sample some of western Canada's cuisine.

DAY7Sightseeing in Vancouver

We get to know Vancouver after breakfast this morning on a guided sightseeing tour, exploring some of the city's most characterful districts.

We begin in Gastown, Vancouver's historic heart and original downtown district. Known for its redbrick Victorian buildings and leafy streets, this atmospheric area is centred around Maple Tree Square, home to the Gastown Steam Clock and filled with independent coffee shops, galleries and stylish boutiques. We continue into Chinatown - the largest in Canada - where we take in the sights and sounds of the streets and squares. Next, we visit Stanley Park, a green oasis nestled between the city and sea. Here, we follow part of the famous Seawall and view the colourful totem poles that celebrate the region's Native American history.

The rest of the afternoon is free to explore independently. You might explore Granville Island's food markets or browse local shops before we regroup this evening for dinner in the hotel restaurant.

DAY8A free day in Vancouver

A full free day awaits after breakfast, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself further in Vancouver, a Pacific coast city known for its stunning natural setting, diverse culture and great cuisine.

You might choose to cross the harbour and visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, where a walk across the bridge offers incredible views over the forested canyon below. Alternatively, Lynn Canyon Park offers peaceful trails and a lesser-known suspension bridge, perfect for enjoying the beauty of British Columbia's temperate rainforest at your own pace.

Back in the city, you could delve into local heritage at the Museum of Anthropology or explore the impressive Vancouver Art Gallery. Food lovers might enjoy a culinary tour or choose to experience the city's thriving restaurant scene independently - from fresh seafood to international street food.

DAY9Boarding your cruise ship in Vancouver

This morning, you are transferred to your luxurious Azamara ship, where you say farewell to the Tour Manager and are warmly welcomed by the attentive crew onboard.

Azamara's smaller-sized ships are designed for a more immersive cruising experience, with the ability to dock in ports that larger vessels can't access. During your time on board, all meals and a house drinks package are included, and you can settle in with a drink or enjoy a leisurely dinner at one of the ship's inviting dining venues, taking in the views as the ship sails into the scenic surrounds of the Salish Sea.

DAY10Through the Inside Passage to Alaska

Today is a full day at sea as we sail towards Alaska, giving you time to relax and enjoy the ship's excellent facilities while admiring the scenic views of stunning fjords, snow-capped mountains and glacial waters.

Relax in the Living Room, enjoy a friendly game of shuffleboard or browse the onboard shops.

In the evening, the Cabaret Lounge comes to life with a programme of entertainment, from full-stage musical revues and classical soloists to live bands and guest performers. Settle in at a cosy table, enjoy a drink from the bar and soak up the atmosphere of a night well spent at sea.

DAY11Ketchikan: First City of Alaska

You arrive in Ketchikan today, a town often referred to as the 'salmon capital of the world' and rich in both natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Wander through Creek Street, a historic boardwalk perched on stilts above the water and home to artisan shops and galleries. You might visit the Totem Heritage Center, which houses one of the world's largest collections of unrestored 19th-century totem poles.

The town itself has a museum, souvenir shops and local art - and there are plenty of dining options to sample the town's celebrated salmon.

DAY12Tlingit heritage in Klawock

Docking in Klawock, you are at leisure to explore this small but culturally rich town on the Pacific Coast of Prince of Wales Island in southeast Alaska.

This hidden gem offers a deep connection to Tlingit heritage and a visit to Klawock Totem Park provides a fascinating insight into the stories and traditions carved into the impressive collection of totem poles on display.

DAY13Juneau – Alaska’s state capital

Alaska's state capital of Juneau awaits today; a unique and scenic city tucked between forested mountains and icy waters - one of the few U.S capitals that's only accessible by air or sea.

You might explore the region's history at the Alaska State Museum or take a scenic tram ride up Mount Roberts Tramway for panoramic views over the city, Gastineau Channel and the surrounding peaks. At the top, walking trails and a cultural centre offer a deeper look into the natural and indigenous heritage of the region.

Juneau is also a gateway to the Mendenhall Glacier, and you can marvel at the glacier and its surroundings.

*Please note: the 28th July departure will operate a different cruise itinerary, sailing for 8 nights and concluding in Seaward. On this day, the ship will dock at Icy Strait Point instead of Juneau.

DAY14Gold Rush history in Skagway

Today, you dock in Skagway, a frontier town at the end of the White Pass & Yukon Railroad that offers a captivating window into Alaska's Gold Rush past.

Once a hub for fortune seekers, Skagway's historic streets are still lined with wooden boardwalks and preserved 19th-century buildings, now home to museums, galleries and charming shops.

You might stroll along Broadway Street, where the town's colourful past comes to life, or visit the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park to delve deeper into the stories of those who once passed through in search of gold.

DAY15Icy Strait Point

Arriving at Icy Strait Point, this renowned destination near the native Tlingit village of Hoonah is surrounded by untouched Alaskan wilderness.

Rich in native heritage and natural beauty, this remote outpost offers a rare glimpse into both traditional culture and thriving wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales, orcas and sea lions,

as the waters here are some of the best for marine wildlife sightings. You might take a nature walk along the forested trails, visit the restored cannery that tells the story of the area's fishing past or learn about Tlingit traditions by meeting local artists.

DAY16Seeking bears in Wrangell

Spend today discovering the charming town of Wrangell, steeped in history and surrounded by stunning natural beauty. One of Alaska's oldest settlements, Wrangell has a rich past shaped by Tlingit heritage as well as Russian, British and American influence.

Explore nearby Stikine River, a haven for wildlife, or visit the Anan Wildlife Observatory, where black bears and bald eagles gather during the salmon run.

In town, wander to Petroglyph Beach to view centuries-old rock carvings or visit local museums and galleries that celebrate the region's cultural roots.

DAY17Sailing towards Victoria

Enjoy the comforts of life at sea today as you sail towards Victoria, exploring more of what the ship has to offer. Enjoy a treatment in the spa (payable onboard) or simply take in the sea views with a coffee from the Mosaic Cafe - the perfect spot to ease into the day.

You might enjoy a long lunch at one of the ship's speciality restaurants, a relaxing afternoon in one of the social lounges or unwind in the Drawing Room with a good book.
