As GRJ fans we were very disappointed with the holiday in the IOS. The delay in providing detailed information about the tour meant we embarked on a tour which that was completely unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. Apart from St Mary’s there is no transport on the other islands included in the itinerary. The most important feature of the tour for us was to visit the famous Abbey Gardens on Tresco Island where there is no transport. On arrival at the quay, there is a 20-30 minute walk to the gardens over uneven footpaths. The other two islands included in the tour,St Agnes and St Martin, present the same mobility problems. One of the few things we were capable of doing in St Mary’s was a visit to the Holy Vale vineyard as suggested in our guide’s information sheet. On arrival we found it was closed for maintenance. At the time of booking, we had requested the itinerary details and twice more without any response. Had we had the information about the lack of transport early enough we most certainly would have made different arrangements. We did eventually received the information just a few days before the start of the tour. We would advise anyone with mobility problems not to embark on this tour.

A very well organised holiday with a good tour guide. One downside was the accommodation on the night sleeper

Everything went perfectly……..until the very last thing, when good old GWR let us down by being 35 minutes late into Paddington. Nothing to do with Great Rail Journeys.
